Queens Cross Housing Association, Garscube Estate
Morris and Spottiswood were appointed in June 2009 by Queens Cross Housing Association to carry out a new-build residential development within the Garscube Estate in Maryhill.
The entire project consists of 83 No new dwellings, split across two adjacent sites:
Hopehill Road (South Site)
A 5-storey high 34-bed sheltered accommodation complex complete with staff offices and common facilities. The distinguishing building is clad in a variety of facing bricks with a rear access deck and undercroft parking. This complex building also contains solar panels which connect to the central heating plant and provides hot water to the flats and facilities.
The highly energy efficient building will achieve a "Very Good" rating by Eco-Homes Assessment, and also satisfy 'Housing For Varying Needs' and 'Secure By Design' Accreditation.
Maltbarns Street (East/West Site)
This development consists of a variety of flatted, low-rise and specially adapted properties.
- 18 No low-rise 2-storey terraced houses, inclusive of 2 No large 6-person units being specially designed for habitation by wheelchair users.
- 55 No 2-bedroom flats, of which 27 No are being made available for part ownership via 'Shared-Equity' scheme.
- 10- No 'Very Sheltered' complex complete with staff offices and facilities.
Again, all of the flatted units are fitted with solar panels which will provide energy to heat water. All units will achieve a "Very Good" rating by Eco-Homes Assessment, and also satisfy 'Housing For Varying Needs' and 'Secure By Design' Accreditation.
A large access deck to rear and a play area are also provided to contribute to this modern and stylish development.
This project is the largest ever solar panel installation of its kind in Scotland.
