Orkidstudio, a humanitarian design organisation who focus on using innovative design and construction to benefit underprivileged communities, recently undertook the construction of the new St Jerome’s Centre for children located in Nakuru, Kenya.
“Thank you so much for your incredibly kind contribution to the project. It made such a significant impact and enabled us to provide a home of high quality for a wonderful community.”
James Mitchell, Orkidstudio Director
The St Jerome’s Centre is an orphanage created by students and new graduates from the UK. The centre opened its doors in 2012 and they currently provide shelter, food, education, medical care and security to orphan or in need children.
Morris & Spottiswood were honoured to support the construction of this new centre by donating materials which were a necessity in the construction of the centre.
The priority of this project was to create a safe and secure living environment for the children and staff of St Jerome’s.
Orkidstudio kept this a priority while designing the centre but also focused on providing a creative space for the children which included a variety of areas for activities, study areas, quiet areas and the creation of a treehouse structure transformed from the space for a water header tank.
The creation of this new home will allow St Jerome’s to open their doors to many more children who are in need of refuge.
