Morris & Spottiswood are helping local school, Govan High School, provide students with a unique course which will give them the opportunity to gain and develop practical, construction related skills.
This course will enable students to learn a selection of trades such as Painting & Decorating, Joinery and Plumbing. We have installed a mock-up house within one of the classrooms in the school where students can learn how to maintain, enhance and remain safe within a working environment. Students who complete the course will gain an SQA national qualification.
This initiative came from a group of Teachers within Govan High School who wanted to ensure their students had the skills and confidence to be all they can be once they leave the school. This is a pilot scheme and if successful this programme could roll out to other schools encouraging partnerships with local contractor businesses.
The course has just recently been launched with students taking part in apprenticeship interviews with the Morris & Spottiswood HR team and receiving Health & Safety ‘Toolbox Talks’ from our own Director of Compliance, Douglas McGlade.
