The new £1million state-of-the-art unit will provide care for 17 to 24 year olds with cancer across the East of Scotland.
The new teenage cancer trust unit is housed on the former wards 3 of the Cancer Centre and will have four inpatient bedrooms, a day care room for outpatient treatment and provides a home from home environment for many young people and their families. Unlike ‘ordinary’ hospital wards, it will also have a social hub that includes a TV and chill out zone, a gaming area, computer desks, a beverage bay and dining area. It will also have a kitchen where young people and their families can prepare meals, as well as access to wifi throughout. The contract is run under NEC 3 – target cost) and involves the complete strip out of existing ward and formation of rooms with all finished.
