National Apprenticeship Week 2026: Investing in the Future, One Career at a Time

Putting people first isn’t new to us. It’s how the Morris & Spottiswood Group has worked for generations.

As an independently-owned business with a proud heritage and a strong track record of growth, our success has always been built on the same foundation: investing in people, developing talent and creating an environment where careers can genuinely thrive. From apprentices taking their first steps to experienced professionals progressing into leadership roles, we’re committed to long-term development at every stage.

We believe the future of our industry depends on the opportunities we create today. That’s why training, learning and development sit at the heart of everything we do, particularly when it comes to apprenticeships.

To date, we’ve supported the development of over 500 apprentices across the Group, with new opportunities opening up every year. Our apprentices work on live projects, gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills alongside experienced teams who are invested in their success. It’s real responsibility, real learning and real career progression from day one.

And the impact speaks for itself. Over 10% of our workforce has been with us for 10 years or more, reflecting a culture where people feel valued, supported and motivated to build their future with us.

Our approach hasn’t gone unnoticed. Morris & Spottiswood is proud to hold Platinum accredited membership with The 5% Club, and Livingston is equally proud to hold its own Gold membership. This recognises our ongoing commitment to “earn and learn” initiatives, including apprenticeships, graduate pathways and sponsored student placements.

This recognition reinforces what we already know: when you invest properly in people, the benefits are felt across the entire business.

In 2026, we plan to welcome new apprentices across the Group, bringing fresh perspectives, energy and ambition into our teams. These opportunities don’t just benefit our business, they give individuals the chance to earn while they learn, gain industry-recognised qualifications and progress as far as their talent and drive will take them.

With a long-term commitment to developing future leaders from within the business, today’s apprentices are tomorrow’s supervisors, managers and directors.

An apprenticeship with the Morris & Spottiswood Group is rewarding and full of opportunity. It combines hands-on experience with structured training, exposure to complex projects and continuous development well beyond the end of the programme.

Learning doesn’t stop once qualifications are achieved. Ongoing training, upskilling and professional development are part of our culture ensuring our people stay current, capable and confident throughout their careers.
