The project involved the extensive refurbishment and fitout of the Manchester Metropolitan University’s library. The extensive works had to be completed to a very tight schedule and presented a number of technical and logistical challenges. In particular, the library was operational throughout the project, which required detailed planning to keep any disruption to a minimum. The prestige and scope of the job reflected MMU’s status as the largest campus-based undergraduate University in the UK.

"We found Morris & Spottiswood extremely professional at all times. Paul Smith and his team were very sensitive to the fact that they were working in a building which was occupied and where a service was still being run. The standard of work was high throughout, with quality finishes."

DELIVERY

Extensive pre-planning was required in order to ensure that the right logistical measures and resources were in place for the safe removal of all books and contents from the library and to ensure planned milestone dates for completion were met (to allow re-stocking of all areas at the required time). Our Contract Manager met on a daily basis with the University Staff to ensure the smooth delivery of the works with minimal disruption to building users.

The works included the removal and replacement of windows on four floors, flooring work, the installation of new plasterboard, glazed partitioning and new fixtures and fittings, along with full redecoration, including new wall and ceiling finishes. Specialist services included the removal of asbestos from window areas and a full M&E renewal, comprising data installation works, lighting and the installation of HVAC and safety systems.
