We were appointed as the Main Contractor to undertake a significant refurbishment project within Edinburgh University’s Cancer Research Centre. The work on this high-profile facility involved relocating existing office space and creating a new wet laboratory area. The project also involved the installation of a variety of specialist equipment. The resulting new spaces provide a highly professional and streamlined working environment for the Centre’s researchers and other team members.
The refurbishment works included the alteration of a main entrance doorway and the alteration of an existing solid external double-door fire escape to form a glazed ‘out of hours’ access and Final Exit fire escape door. An existing internal rotunda was converted into a meeting room and a new pantry was created. Other internal works included alterations to the existing internal reception/lobby and offices/meeting/store rooms. This was done to accommodate a redesigned open-plan office and 1/2-person cellular work spaces.
The work on research and technical areas included the upgrade of microscopy rooms, and the conversion of a store to freezer room. Some of the elements of the project, such as the alteration of floor plates, involved significant structural work.
