We undertook major refurbishment works within the Chancellors Building at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, for the University’s Medical School. The project delivered an impressive series of interior spaces that reflect the importance of the school and its work. The interiors that we helped to create included micro laboratories, offices, a common room, an atrium and a post-graduate lounge.
The project was undertaken while the building was in use. To minimise disruption, works were completed in phases and demarcated by temporary hoarding. Careful planning and good communications allowed building users, students and staff to continue with their work throughout the run of the project.
Works involved the removal of suspended ceilings, furniture, fittings and floor coverings, as well as the demolition of a large stud partition wall that separated two laboratories. Following on from this strip-out work, we installed new timber, ceramic floor coverings and carpets, bespoke furniture, timber wall panelling, suspended ceilings and a new reception desk. Specialist M&E work included the installation of air-conditioning, lighting and ventilation.
