Acting as the Principle Contractor, we undertook extensive internal and external refurbishment work at Edinburgh’s historic Fountainbridge Library. The project included flat roof works, window and cupola repairs, extensive groundworks, stonework repairs, render/ plaster repairs and decorative works. As the building is Grade ‘B’ listed, it was important to ensure that the repairs did not compromise its historical features in any way. All works were completed on time and within budget.
This highly sensitive repair and refurbishment project was undertaken in a live working environment. This required careful planning and close communication with the client. Care was taken right from the start: Prior to the works commencing, full surveys were carried out to identify any potential challenges.
The job presented a number of health and safety challenges. Scaffolding had to be erected in the centre of the library’s main stairwell to carry out high-level redecoration works and glazing repairs. Crash decks were erected to allow the skylights, glazing, plastering and decoration and timber repairs to be carried out safely. To ensure everything went to plan, all of our staff received comprehensive health and safety training on working at height.
