We created new, high-quality learning environments and office space for Westlands School, Thornaby. The project involved internal demolition and construction work, including the removal of an existing roof structure and the reconfiguration of the layout of the school’s east wing. Following the demolition work, a new roof structure, roof coverings and roof lights were installed and upgrades were made to existing perimeter fascias.
The project was completed in a live environment, while the school was in session. This meant that it was vital to minimise noise and disruption and to ensure the highest levels of health and safety. These requirements were met through careful planning and good communications.
The project included the installation of bespoke fitted laboratories, food technology and ICT spaces. A new reception and lobby extension were also constructed. Building services were enhanced and new internal and external drainage and toilets were installed. Wall, floor and ceiling finishes were upgraded and plastering and decorative work was carried out throughout the building. New M&E installations included lighting, small power, data, fire alarm, radiators, AC and ducting. New internal and external aluminium windows were also fitted.
