Mammography Unit Refurbishment

NHS Lothian

Location

Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

Duration

26 Weeks

Scale

Mammography Unit

Value

£800k

We revised and updated the existing ward layout of the Western General Hospital’s Mammography Unit to create a good-looking, streamlined and functional modern care facility. The refurbishment works included alterations to the existing office layouts and the adaption and extension of existing services and finishes. To add further capacity to the unit, we constructed a new single-storey, metal-framed, flat-roofed, 250m2 building, which we fitted-out with all necessary services and finishings.

DELIVERY

The project was procured under NEC 3 - target cost. As it was undertaken in a live working environment, the works had to be phased (in five phases) to suit the operational requirements of the mammography department.

Four weeks of planning were required to allow the project to proceed safely. To ensure that everything went without a hitch, daily liaisons with key representatives from the overall project team took place to co-ordinate all main activities. At every new phase of the project, temporary facilities were provided for the building’s users so that they could continue to work and access the hospital’s services.
