Specialists in healthcare

Whilst every space we create is important, some are especially so. Our work in the healthcare sector involves working on spaces such as care homes and mental health units – where people need to feel safe and secure, and where staff can deliver optimum care during difficult times. Our work on labs – from teaching and research settings to Covid testing laboratories – delivers state-of-the-art spaces where essential work can be undertaken. Whatever the project – from transforming an old outpatient unit into a bright and modern Same Day Emergency Care Department to the delivery of a care unit for teenage cancer patients – our extensive expertise in the healthcare arena means we’re perfectly placed to deliver.

Our track record speaks for itself, in the last three years alone we’ve delivered over £25m in healthcare projects. Our work is valued by our clients – we’re proud of the fact that we don’t just win one-off contracts, but have developed long term partnerships with clients, supporting them in the delivery of their property transformation programmes. We’ve also recently been re-appointed to the NHS National Shared Services, Scottish Minor Building Works Framework complementing our current delivery of healthcare projects across England via the NHS SBS England Framework.

Our healthcare project delivery experience spans the spectrum from public to private sector, and varying budgets from hundreds of thousands of pounds to millions. But whatever the project, we take pride in applying our innovative thinking and visionary approach to ensure we offer great value and the most cost-effective solution possible.

Our approach means we are always looking for ways to improve our service delivery, from ensuring end user satisfaction and stakeholder engagement via the use of CGIs and 3D modelling, to taking care of the finer project details, for example, our innovative use of cap and cove skirting delivers a safer, cleaner and neater finish and is ideal for use across our healthcare projects.

As you would expect from us, we’re able to work in live environments, after all, people’s care requirements can’t be put on hold just because a refurbishment is taking place. We understand that health and wellbeing settings require particular care and consideration – they need to be clean, safe and privacy is paramount. We’re able to work non-traditional hours to make this happen, but we’re also able to set up things in such a way that any impact is kept to a minimum and our experienced, professional team will be fully briefed so that they work within any and all necessary parameters.

We take pride in what we do and how we do it. And whilst we deliver to the same exacting standards on private and public sector jobs, we understand the differences between the two and work in a way that reflects this.

A high percentage of our healthcare sector clients are NHS Trusts and Boards. Recent work in this area includes the construction of a new Acute Hospital Laboratory at Leeds General Infirmary for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a two-year long project carried out in a live environment; the delivery of a new Anti-Microbial Laboratory at Wythenshawe Hospital for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and most recently the delivery of a new Living Well Hub for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which will complete by the end of 2023. The Warrington Living Well Hub is a vanguard project which reflects the future direction of travel for Health and Social Care at both a national and local level. The hub will create a space where partners work together to deliver services in a joined-up manner enabling a variety of services to be delivered in a single location and we are delighted to be part of this project.

Our recent work in the private sector, includes a multi-million-pound programme of works for long-standing client Circle Health Group delivering several new clinical treatment areas, upgrading patient care facilities, building a new reception area and replacing the cladding at their facilities at Ross Hall and Braehead in Glasgow. All of these projects have been delivered successfully due to the excellent collaborative partnership and working ethos shared with both the client and design partners, working together to deliver excellence in healthcare facility provision.

Collaboration is something we excel at – we not only have a superb supply-chain network in place, but our set up allows us to draw upon the expertise and specialisms of other members of the Morris & Spottiswood group of companies, allowing us to offer real efficiencies and a comprehensive end to end service delivery.

We’ve delivered a lot of high-profile healthcare sector projects, but that’s just the start. As Matthew Wall, our Public Sector Director explains. “We’re involved in a wide range of projects from refurbishing maternity theatres and paediatric wings, to working on cancer and covid labs – we’re even able to deliver external fabric upgrades and decarbonisation schemes, so are able to take care of all client project requirements. Our team understands the unique demands of care and healthcare settings, especially when working in a live environment. We know that discretion and keeping disruption to a minimum are as vital as creating a safe, clean, and secure workplace. We know that standards are different in this sector and, like the people we work with and for, we refuse to compromise. Going forward we’re excited by the idea of working with new clients – as well as our existing ones – on new projects that challenge us and provide us with new opportunities to apply our innovative approach to this sector.”
