Our partnership with Govan High School to develop their Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programme is going from strength to strength. Govan High and Volunteer Skills for Life Development Officer, Peter Crawford, are building on the success of the 2014-2015 programme, as 6 out of the 7 pupils who undertook the SVQ course in Painting and Decorating went into further education or secured a job.

The new intake of 17 pupils are now able to undertake not only painting and decorating, but also SVQs in plumbing and joinery. Morris & Spottiswood have contributed to this expansion by providing plumbing workshops, where pupils can learn practical skills. Health & Safety Training & PPE has been provided by our Health and Safety team and our HR Team assisted in the interview and selection process for this year’s programme.

The programme has been so successful that Peter Crawford and Allan Boyd, our HR Director have been invited to the Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce Conference in Glasgow on 30th October 2015, to give a presentation and feedback on the positive outcomes this partnership is producing, they will be joined by Laura McCormick, 1st Year Apprentice at Morris & Spottiswood, who was recruited from the project.
