Police Woman. Never grew :(

Describe a typical day in your current job

Busy and challenging at times but enjoyable.

Why did you choose construction as a career?

I didn’t - I had an opportunity and took it.

Did you have any reservations or concerns about joining the industry as a woman? Have these changed?

Yes, but working with a great bunch of people, where 80% are men at a guess, has changed my concerns/reservations as the company is great to work for.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge of being a woman working within construction?

Understanding the lingo on documents and within the industry.

What is the favourite part of your job?

Completing assignments and seeing how your work fits into the completion of projects.

What’s been the biggest surprise since joining the construction industry?

No matter what age / gender, you will always fit in in the construction industry.

Would you recommend a career in construction to women? Why?

Yes. Challenging, rewarding, meeting people, seeing the completion of works.

Do you have any advice to any woman who’s currently thinking about coming into the construction industry?

Go for it, you will always have security in this industry, an industry where you can work your way up to achieve whatever you want from a Joiner to Director.
