Describe a typical day in your current job

Liaising with Sub-Contractors, Clients and people in my Internal Team. I produce various documentation for the jobs I am on and also manage the project meetings / site meetings and I am based on a Site in Wythenshawe.

Why did you choose construction as a career?

For a new challenge and to break gender normalities.

Did you have any reservations or concerns about joining the industry as a woman? Have these changed?

I did, traditional views don’t favour women however everyone at work is very accommodating and have helped me thrive.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge of being a woman working within construction?

Trying to get people to listen to me and have my value and ideas known.

What is the favourite part of your job?

My favourite part is experiencing all the different sites and places I get to travel.

What’s been the biggest surprise since joining the construction industry?

The biggest surprise is the encouragement I’ve had from my male peers.

How does the business make your workplace diverse?

The smaller office allows for characters to shine through, making great friendships which inevitably increases production.

How does the business make your workplace inclusive?

If you have the skills and drive, you’ll success. No matter what sex or race or religion. Everyone is welcome.

Having a training plan set up.

How does the business support your work life balance?

Structured working hours which allows me to have a good work life balance.

Would you recommend a career in construction to women? Why?

I do because it’s a sense of great achievement when you gain validation from the people who believed you never could.

Do you have any advice to any woman who’s currently thinking about coming into the construction industry?

Don’t hesitate and worry, just do your all.
